As we continue to be good stewards of our church property, we are able to provide warm inviting spaces that can host large meetings in our community. One group of around 150 members that has been using the sanctuary and Wesley Hall for many years is the Camano Island Quilters, who hold monthly meetings and workshops at SUMC. And with them the outreach continues, since this group of regional quilters asks each member to provide at least one quilt per year to Providence Children’s Hospital in Everett. They also supply quilts to Ryan’s House for young adults, American Heroes, and a group of retired nuns who have left their convent without many personal possessions. CIQ also maintains ties with other community charitable organizations. They recently bought nearly $40 worth of Valentines from our UMW mission project! Hosting the quilters’ group is only one of so many ways in which our congregation is able to reach out well beyond Sunday morning services and the walls of the church building.
